Hey lovelies, I really like Abie’s work and I admire the courage and strength she has in her. Abie doesn’t only think about herself, she is giving back to her community which you will learn more about in this interview.
I felt that Abie has a story that will inspire us all, this is why I asked her for an interview and also because she is one hot model lol.
‘If you believe in yourself, others will have no option but to believe in you.’
Here is Abie’s story (please read it carefully, because I guarantee you will learn something positive from Abie). To make it easier and to breakdown Abie’s story, Abie was asked some questions via an email conversation, each question will have it answer below it.
1.Tell us about your background: where do you come from?
I was born in the Diamond Rich district of Kono in Sierra Leone. I left Kono District for the capital Freetown at the age of 5, and travel within months to Italy where my father was residing.
2. When was the 1st time you realised you had no limitations?
I had always dreamt of becoming a Top Model even though others told me to give up or always try to put me down but that didn’t stop me from achieving my dream. The negativity from people makes me hungry to pursue my modelling career.
3. When was the moment that your big door/opportunity open?
I featured in the recent Mr and Miss Runway London 2013/14. My big moments came when I was nominated to the BEFFTA Award 2011 and successfully participated in the Top Model Colours since 2011. The Ghana fashion week and Africa fashion week are events that have recognises my talent in the runway and fashion for top designers in these events.
4. What inspires you?
I started modelling at the age of 13 in Italy where I grew up, I was inspired by watching TV programmes and fashion magazines. Since then I have never look back and my career have taken a big step forward with numerous recognitions in the modelling and fashion industry in the UK.
5. What are some of the obstacles you faced and how have you over come them?
The negativity from people makes me hungry to pursue my modelling career. As always lack of sponsorship, funding and morale support to push our career to a higher height especially in my local community. I have to invest my own hard earned income to sustained my desired of becoming a top model.
6. What have your learnt so far?
It very easy to feel discourage and feel subdued, but I am pleased to say perseverance is the key to success. I have leaned in life or anything you plan on doing is all about patient and dedication to achieved your dreams.
7. What makes you smile or how do you make you love ones smile :)?
I see myself as a role model to society, friends and family. I always encourage others to believe in their strength to overcome obstacles. I am easy going and always approachable. . In April 27, 2012 I launch a Modelling Agency in my beloved country Sierra Leone and host a Fashion show at the old school night club.
Lastly, I never gave up on my dream and therefore intend to use my life episode as an example to motivate the Sierra Leonean youths to keep their dreams alive and make use of whatever God given talents they possess. Most importantly I am working extremely hard to launch a fashion magazine and established a boutique business stocking my own brand and design.
8. What is your biggest dream?
My biggest dream is to give back my talents and inspire others to achieve their dreams and potentials. I am engaged in charity work and community developments all geared towards giving back to society.
