Delicia has done very well in sharing her story with us in this interview. So here we go, enjoy this amazing read with a glass of whatever and a popcorn.
1. Tell us about your Fashion/Brand Influencer career and how it all started?
I have always had an intense admiration for Fashion and the Beauty industry as a whole. My career began in modelling nearly 10 years ago, I played the lead role in numerous music videos for UK artists including N-Dubz and Bizzle. Following that I explored my love for Beauty and Make-up by enrolling at the East London Beauty Academy where I earned a Diploma in Beauty Therapy, I then started up my first business where I performed beauty treatments and client makeovers, which led me to working alongside award winning Makeup Artist House of JDFK, assisting her on big wedding bookings and beauty pageants, making over the ladies for the day. My love for makeup grew even more, I took up another role working for designer brands including, Iman, Urban decay, Mac and Chanel on their Make-up counters in some of the most prestigious department stores in London.
As time progressed I introduced hair extensions to the business Glamorous Fashionistas, I sold high quality human hair wigs and hair bundles that I modelled daily, and was featured in the Black Beauty magazine as a recommended hair supplier. After taking a short break to have my first baby I was approached by a TV production for channel 5 to be a part of there upcoming series about glamorous mothers called Blinging up Baby, the show allowed me to showcase my style/styling ability and exhibit my passion for fashion on myself and my family, the experience gave me the courage and determination to pursue my dream. Currently I am a brand Influencer/Ambassador and Fashion Blogger, and am working on future projects in Fashion.
2. When was the 1st time you realised you had no limitations to pursue your dream?
There are a number of factors that contributed to me knowing that there are no limits to reaching my dreams. Firstly, I am blessed with a very supportive, optimistic and loving husband, who believes in me so much, more than myself at times. He tells me constantly that I can succeed in anything I put my mind to and he continues to sacrifice his time, and sponsor my ventures if needed. Secondly, I am a Christian and becoming closer to Almighty I feel that I know what my purpose is and that God will always make a way for me even when it seems there is no way through. I have seen my dreams come to reality time and time again. I know that the only person who can put limitations on my success is myself and that is something I will no longer be doing, I am my team I have to keep believing.
3. What is your responsibility as an online influencer?
Having a following on instagram or any social media platform, being a wife and mother I have a responsibility to lead a good example and participate only in projects I believe in and have passion for. Representing brands and modelling items and the alike immediately puts me in the public eye along with my family at that. I stay true to myself, I am passionate about expressing my image and style through collaborations with online companies who likewise share my love for glamorous, yet affordable Fashion that exudes class, elegance and is of course trendy and current. Consistency is key and an eye for detail is a must, it’s a gift being able to style a single item in multiple ways and make it work every time effortlessly without having to imitate anyone else.
4. You do a lot of Styling and fashion post, which you are mostly admired for, What inspires that?
I am extremely active on Instagram and my posts whether it’s a selfie of myself or a family picture exudes style. I am known for matching with my husband and children, regardless of where we are you can almost guarantee that we will be colour co-ordinated and/or in matching items. I absolutely love that, and strategically aim to do that, however it seems to be happening now even without effort I guess we are in tune with each other! I often meet up with my husband during the day to find that we are wearing the same colours, without having seen or prepared our clothes prior to that!
For as long as I can recall as far back as primary school, I always took great detail in my appearance and that trait has not left me, but rather it has grown and increased even more over the years; Besides I have always admired well groomed and immaculate individuals and desired to partake in that myself. I believe one express themselves through how they dress and your style speaks volumes without you having to say a word!
5. What are some of the obstacles you’ve faced and how have you over come them?
Obstacles have been plenty and are a part of life but then so are solutions and other options, which each obstacle has been another chance to try again or enrol into something new, often new opportunities have unfolded when obstacles have arose. I used to believe that having children would be a big obstacle for me having a career, let alone a glamorous one. I now use it as an advantage! My daughters are my absolute dream come true and the thought of them dressing the same and all four of us matching and dressing up excites me.
The reality is Fashion covers so many genres and sectors which means I can include my family in my pursuit and we can all enjoy the process. Rather the obstacle has now become very beneficial.
6. What have your learnt so far?
I have learnt so much and am still learning daily. Perseverance is everything, just as important as self belief. I have been told that I am not good enough, I’ve been laughed at and ridiculed, betrayed but all of those situations have made me more resilient and I am stronger than ever. I strongly believe in the saying “nobody is you and that is your power”. I am in a place in my life where I can appreciate my blessings and use my previous mistakes as a learning curb, and something that has a positive impact on me today.
7. What makes you smile or how do you make your love ones smile :)?
My family make me smile! I love them so much and waking up to them is so fulfilling, spending time with them is my absolute favourite. Seeing my daughters bond together is a beautiful thing! I also love to laugh, looking at pictures of good memories, dining out and socialising with good company. I love to shop and dress up of course! Travelling and just living!
Making others smile makes me feel good, making my husband his favourite foods and spoiling him and my babies, I like to give and help others by offering my time and skills, it’s good to give back and love thy neighbour, my life is more fulfilling when I put others needs before my own. I get a lot of women message me online and tell me that because of me they believe in love and that I am inspiring to them, some call me their role model which is overwhelming for me to even believe but I am grateful that God has used me as an example to give others hope and the fact I can make somebody feel hope and believe in love and marriage is an honour to say the least. I am beyond grateful for the love and appreciation shown towards me and my family.
8. Are you considering to have your own fashion line some day?
Yes I have most definately considered having my own Fashion Brand in the future. I often imagine/create clothes in my mind that I would like to find in the shops, but I’m rarely able to find them, I guess having my own clothing line would solve that issue!
9. What advice would you give to upcoming artists?
My advice for those aspiring to enter into to the Fashion/Beauty Industry is to first set realistic goals. Secondly, look at your attributes, what qualities do you have that are beneficial to your dream? Thirdly, love and believe in your self relentlessly. We live in a society where unhealthy comparisons are common, we are in a generation of pretending we all have perfect lives, which is not the case. It is important to be able to stay focused in the mist of bad times, a balance is needed so take up a hobby that allows you to still be you, or you can get lost in the rat race. Networking is very important, don’t be afraid to reach out to those who are already where you want to be, ask questions and take notes, research and take small steps daily to your goals. Become self assured and keep getting back up after every fall as that is what builds character and will become your story to success.
